What Works in a
"Down" Market?
When the economy isn't growing, the only way to increase your company's sales is to steal market share from your competitors.

So the first thing is: If you don't think you have any competitors, think harder. Your prospects certainly aren't going to spend more money than they're already spending now. So you need to figure out what they're buying now, then figure out a way to get them to stop buying it, and spend the money with you instead.

You need to make sure you can articulate your value proposition in real, measureable terms. If you can't save your customers real money or time, or make them more money and lower their risk, they're not going to buy.

Finally, you need to figure out a way to get in front of them. How you do that depends on how many new customers you need, and the economics of your particular business.
